William Hogarth (1697-1764),engraving The Times Plate 1 Paulson 211 iii. etching and engraving. Published as the Act Directs Sept 7 1762. Measures 11 x 13, in a wonderful gilt wood frame that measures 17.5 x 19.75 inches. Excellent condition. In Hogarth’s 1762 engraving, the city on fire is emblematic of the Seven Years War and King George III’s efforts to bring about peace. Note the houses in the center, one with the sign of the two-necked eagle (Germany) and another with the fleur-de-lis (France). England is on the far left and a globe on the building to the right shows the extent of the damage being done
