Joseph Charles de Blezer bronze figure of an arts muse in rare ormolu finish in ormolu c1880. She is seated langorously in a lyre back chair and holds a jester stick and a mask. The gilt bronze surface is in excellent condition, with gentle wear at the side of the face. Measures 12.75 inches wide, 5 inches deep and 12 inches high with base. J C de Blezer was a 19th century French sculptor born in Ghent, Belgium. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under renowned sculptor Jean Baptiste Clesinger.De Blezer's best known work was his 1870 bust of American abolishionist John Brown, now in the collection of Oberlin College.
