A half relief Japanese wooden carving of a karashishi and her cub. The female shi shi is shown with her right paw resting gently on the back of her cub. Fine detailing to the curly main and tail. Condition is very good a few very minor nicks as wood be expected for a piece that dates from the 1850 to 1860, the late Edo to very early Meiji period. The piece measures 16 and one quarter inches long by 6 and one quarter inches wide and 3 and one quarter inches thick.
