Early American solid cherry paymasters desk circa 1830-40. Excellent condition. Made in 2 parts, the top is original to the base. The drop front writing surface conceals a fitted interior with multiple drawers and large slots for ledgers. There is a single hand cut and dovetailed drawer with sandwich glass knobs over four turned legs. Measures 61.5 inches tall, 33.5 inches wide, 19 inches deep at the base and 9.25 inches deep at top, and 30 inches high to the felt writing surface. Desks like this one were used on plantations and in country stores.
