Rare 19th century framed specimen collection of 23 South American butterflies circa 1880. Beautifully mounted in original gold washed frame. According to the heir of the estate this collection came from, an uncle was an academic who traveled the world in search of rare and unique examples. Each butterfly has a hand written description of its name and specific origin. The frame measures 64 inches wide, 12 inches high, 2.75 inches deep with linen interior and glass front.
