SOLD ITEM 4172 - Wheeler 1934 boat model Hemingway's Pilar

There are 12 images of this item.

Handmade model 1934 Wheeler fishing boat exact copy of Pilar, Ernest Hemingway's fishing boat when he lived in Cuba. During WW II, Hemingway actually outfitted the Pilar with weapons and a crew in to patrol the Gulf Stream for German U-boats that were slipping into the Gulf of Mexico to torpedo American shipping vessels. He never found any. The model measures 39 inches long, 8 and one half inches wide, 27 inches tall. Finely detailed mahogany deck and cabin with full galley kitchen inside. There are compartments that hold fish and solid mahogany swiveling deck chairs along with a harpoon. A great piece of nostalgic maritime art.
