Antique Japanese Fukagawa Imari gilt enamel porcelain charger. Late Edo to Meiji period, circa 1860-70. Unusual asymetric design with mythical bird, serpent, and auspicious symbols. Surface shows gilt and enamel loss but no chips or cracks. It is trademarked with the scented orchid (koransha) of early Fukagawa. The Fukagawa company has been around for over a century, and has the honour of supplying porcelain to the Japanese Imperial family. The three lower marks read 'Fukagawa sei' meaning 'made by Fukagawa'. Measures 16.5 inches across....
