True matched pair of antique 19th century Chinese temple lions, each carved from single blocks of hardwood. Finely detailed teeth, claws, and curling manes. The female rests her paw on an upturned puppy; the male rests his paw on an embroidered ball. Each is seated on a pedestal carved with a draped Chinese rug. Wonderful carving detail. This is the largest pair we have ever had the good fortune to come across. Each lion measures 27" high x 20" deep; each base measures 28 inches wide, 39 inches deep and 21 inches high. The combined height of the base and lion is 48 inches. T
