Early 19th century Antique French copper Turbot pan stamped L D B. This piece of French copper is in excellent original condition. All hand dovetailed. It is very heavy guage copper weighing 11 lbs. Measures 19 x 21 x 5 inches high and 26.5 handle to handle. On many of the pots and pans made in 19th century France, you can find initials and numbers inscribed. The numbers were used to tell the pans apart in a busy kitchen. They were either inscribed by the manufacturer, often denoting the diameter of the pan in centimeters, or by the owners. The latter frequently had their initials placed in the pan. It is said that sometimes this was done to help tell the owner of the pans apart when they were sent to a shop for re-tinning. In some pans you can see multiple sets of initials, tracing the many different hands the pan has gone through. I got a chair from my grandmother with carved dragons on it. After searching everywhere, I found the same chair on your website. I thought it looked Asian, but had no idea how valuable it is! I almost sold it to a friend for a hundred bucks. I am so glad I used your site to learn how much it's worth! Your price guide is such a great tool! Thanks Again!!
