Bamboo baskets for the traditional flower-arranging art of ikebana were very popular in Japan in the late Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods, c1890 - 1950's. They are highly prized by museums and collectors worldwide. This basket is in perfect condition, retaining its deep rich old patina. Double weave baskets like this one were very difficult to make. Measures 9.5 x 9.5 x 3.25 inches high.
