Late Edo landscape watercolor of flowers by Japanese painter Ohba Gakusen (1820-1890). Gakusen was born June 21st 1820. Gakusen studied under Asakura Nanryou of Suhou (today's Yamaguchi pref). Later he entered as the student of Oda Kaisen in Kyoto.He was good at painting the Sansui(landscape), as well as flowers and birds.He passed away August 21st 1890. His real last name was Mitsuyoshi,his first name was Tsuru and his nick name was Kokazu. This water color has the most beautiful real gold leaf mat, which we believe to be original to the art work. The frame measures 20 x 22 inches and the watercolor itself measures 13 x 11.5 inches. Excellent condition. No tears or repairs.
