This vintage Japanese dragon fly is called a Bunchin (paper weight). When Japanese are brush writing or calligraphy on paper this weight holds the paper so it does not move. Made by an old Japanese Iron company. The company was called "Iwachu" which was established in Meiji 35, 1902. It is called "Nanbu Tetsu"(Nabu Iron). This Bunchin has a wonderful old patina. Measures 4.5 inches long and 6 inches wide. Hallmarked underneath.
