Ida Bagus Tilem wood carving Mas Bali." Ida Bagus Tilem was born in the village of Mas, Bali, on Dec 13,1936 Died 1993. He came from a long tradition of family woodcarvers. In 1958, because of family financial problems Ida Bagus Tilem left school and set up a studio in Mas at his home, where he sold his own work, and was able to contribute to the family income. Local boys used to come and sit with him. When he was living he had more than 100 apprentices and the same number of fully fledged carvers working with him. He is considered the father of Bali wood carving. Each of this match pair of hands measures 8 inches long and was carved from lignum vitae and is signed by the artist. I got a chair from my grandmother with carved dragons on it. After searching everywhere, I found the same chair on your website. I thought it looked Asian, but had no idea how valuable it is! I almost sold it to a friend for a hundred bucks. I am so glad I used your site to learn how much it's worth! Your price guide is such a great tool! Thanks Again!!
