Six panel Japanese Byobu, or folding screen, with falcon motif. A six fold late 1800's byobu, depicting falcons. Falcons in Japan were respected for their keen vision, speed of flight, and determination. These elegant birds were trained for the great sport of falconry during the Meiji Reign of 1868 to 1912. This screen was put in order and rebacked using old brocade for borders. It measures 5 feet six inches high. Each of the six sections is 22 1/2 inches wide. The folded screen measures 6 inches thick for easy storage.
