Art Deco wicker chair. Heywood-Wakefield in Gardner, Massachusetts, probably circa 1925. Cyrus Wakefield established the Wakefield Rattan Company in 1855, and soon became successful. He merged with his rival, Heywood Brothers, in 1897. The emergence of cheaper man-made fibers around 1930 caused wicker sales to plummet. This is a "Chinese" rocker, a classic Art Deco form fashioned after wicker furniture seen in elegant Hong Kong hotels of that era
