SOLD ITEM 3449 - Birdesye Maple Country Sheraton Butlers desk

There are 3 images of this item.

Antique American furniture butler's secretary, 40 and one half inches wide x 20 and one half inches deep by 45 inches high. It is of northern New England origin, either New Hampshire or Vermont, circa 1825-35. The case is made of bird's eye maple; the drawer fronts are book-matched crotch grain veneers of either wavy birch or mahogany; the cross-band edge veneers could be mahogany, maple or cherry. The simple Sheraton design of this secretary lacks the flair and elegance of high style city furniture. It is a straightforward, good country piece made by a skilled but less sophisticated cabinetmaker.
